When I was in college in Manila, I had quite a hard time looking for a place to transfer to. Initially, I was staying at my aunt’s house but it was three rides away from school. Before I entered my third year in college, I was lucky enough to find a nice one-bedroom condominium unit right across my university. Although it was a bit cramped for me and my roommate and it was a bit too expensive, it was perfect for us.
When I decided to move out late last year, I had a hard time looking for dormitory, apartment, or boarding house that would fit my budget and my space requirements. I didn’t have a large budget so it was hard trying to find a space with the right size, security, privacy, and other amenities. I was lucky enough, though, to be referred by my friend to the boarding house she was staying in. It was perfect for my budget and other requirements. I got a spacious room all for myself, for a low price. The boarding house also has a common area where I am able to watch cable television. We also have clean CRs and shower rooms. And we have a refrigerator where I can store my food and water.
Here in Davao City, it is quite hard to find quality housing if you are not willing to walk around and do ocular inspections. And there are a few reliable websites that will give you listings for housing in the area. In USA however, there are various listings for housing such as Apartments for Rent which offers a list of available housing for every part of USA. They also have customized lists by college, and military base which are very useful. Hopefully, there will be a site similar to it for our area as well.
For the meantime, I am happy with my boarding house, despite the ruckus some of my boardmates create so early in the morning.
