Davao Noontime Toastmasters

Davao Noontime Toastmaters

My friend, Brendel, recently asked me if there is any humility left in me. And I told her, I admit to not knowing things when I do not know anything and I rarely do things I am not good at. The very next day, I attended a meeting of the Davao Noontime Toastmasters Club. I though I was a good public speaker. I though wrong. Attending the meeting was a very humbling experience. I was scared out of my wits and stammered and stuttered the entire time. FAIL! For about two months, my uncle, Rene Lizada has been inviting me to join their Toastmasters meeting. But due to different events, illnesses, and other reasons, I was only able to attend last Friday. According to their site, Toastmasters is "a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations." Toastmasters clubs hold regular meetings in which the members are all tasked to speak in one way or another. There is a Toastmaster of the Day, Formal Speakers, a Table Topics Session, a Light Interlude, and Evaluation. When I attended last Friday, the featured Noonie (Noontime Toastmaster) was Advanced Toastmaster Rene Lizada. He's an…

Pork Chops with Apple Plum Onion Sauce

No Pork this June

I am happy to announce after the failure that was no fried chicken in April, I succeeded in having no coffee for may. This June, for my self-discpline exercise / monthly dietary restriction, I will try to avoid pork. For somebody who loves bacon, ham, tocino, pork chops, and many other pork dishes... this will be hard. But I don't think I will struggle too much. I succeeded in eating no rice for a month rice, right? This no pork thing should be a breeze. Wish me luck!

Mindanao Food Appreciation Tour Day 1

It's already May 30, 1 am, Day 2 of the epic Mindanao Food Appreciation Tour / Soccsksargen Summer Safari (MFAT). Yesterday (a few hours ago) marked a first, Day 1 of the first ever MFAT. The day started with the arrival of Cagayan de Oro Bloggers in Davao City, led by President Chiq Montes. CDO Bloggers and Davao Bloggers ate a sumptuous feast at Ranchero's Grill and Restaurant in Davao City. All thanks to the generosity of Paolo Sunglao and his family. Everybody enjoyed the cornucopia of seafoods and the very tasty and tender baby back ribs, among other dishes. It was a very filling lunch. After lunch the group traveled to General Santos City led by Davao Bloggers Project Lead Brendel Balaga. Upon their arrival they checked in at the official hotel of the event, the Ice Castle Experience where I am currently blogging from right now. It is a soon to open hotel which has really nice amenities. Aside from the free WiFi, have beautiful rooms with flat screen tv, comfortable beds, and clean bathrooms. SUPER NICE! After settling down and freshening up, the participants went to the Pacman Sports Bar owned by Manny and Jinkee Pacquiao where…

Podcast 2: Open Relationships

By request from Mica Rodriguez, I made a podcast on Open Relationships. I also got some questions and subtopics from two Plurk threads that I started. I am by no means a relationship expert nor a graduate of any course that will make me a credible source of information or opinion on the matter. These are just my views and opinion based on my experiences and observations. You might find some value in it. Listen... Download this episode at this link. Helpful? Or not! Comment. Suggest. Share your opinions. Links: Wikipedia: Open Relationships Wikipedia: Open Source Plurk Threads: Link 1, Link 2 This is another test podcast. Humor me while I prepare for better podcasts. If you have any topic suggestions, comments, and opinions, please share them on the comments box.

Podcast 1: Cebu Blog Camp

I have been blogging for more than six years. (I know, right?) After attending the Cebu Blog Camp last weekend, I became more inspired to improve as a blogger. I decided to finally do something I have never tried: PODCAST. My first podcast was as a guest in the Pakbet Podkast last Sunday which was so sabog and funny. I did mention the Cebu Blog Camp there but we also talked about a lot of other things. I decided that I would start my own podcast. And since I am not sure yet what my podcasts are going to be about and how I am going to structure and direct it, I decided to make a test podcast with Cebu Blog Camp as a topic. You can download the podcast at this link. I know it's not much but I tried. :P Here are some important links: Cebu Blog Camp Site The Organizers Speakers and their Topics Info on Blogger Template Designer Jayvee Fernandez's YouTube Channel My Presentation Slides on "Blogging in the Community, for the Community" Once again, thank you to Winston Almendras for the invitation, Chiq Montes for the accommodations, and to John Mendoza and the rest of…

5 Day Diet Challenge

I don't think my body has quite recovered from the epic legend that was the Davao Food Appreciation Tour 2010. It was THREE WHOLE DAYS OF EATING! :-& And as if that's not bad enough for my quest for a sexy body, I spend a lot of time with my blogger friends and cousins who love to eat. Undeniably, I love to eat too. So when they invite to eat maki rolls and frozen yoghurt at 10 pm, I go with them with little protest. And to make things worse, I went to Cebu last weekend. It was a work-related trip peppered with too much eating. I ate tons of Crispy Pata and some Taba ng Talangka among other things. SUE ME! I almost went wild when I saw there was Starbucks and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, but quickly realized I can't have coffee this May. So I drank tons of iced and ice-blended chocolate instead. FAIIIIL! I ATE A LOT! IN A MONTH! BUUUUUUUSHIIIIIIIIT! And I'm about to take another eating tour again. This weekend. In Davao, General Santos, and Lake Sebu. Yes, that's three places. HOLY MOLEY! I'm gonna have a 38 waistline again. NOOOOO! In order…
