Ghibli Cafe + More [February 28 Video Diary]

On Wednesdays we go out to eat and do random errands. We visited the so-called Ghibli cafe, ate crepes, and frozen yoghurt. Plus, some work stuff.

Ghibli Cafe aka Cake Galerie

First stop of the day was Cake Galerie. I have never been to this cafe but they have been around for a long time. Cake Galerie is known as the “Ghibli cafe” because they have books and whimsical decoration inside and outside the cafe. Totoro plushies and other Ghibli merch are on display, as well as a Ponyo cake.

We tried their Ghibli inspired drinks and their Strawberry Cake. I had the Ponyo Kiwi Lemonade with Strawberry Bits which was refreshing, sweet and tart. Meanwhile, my cousin tried the Totoro Hochija Oat Latte with Matcha Cream. And we shared the Strawberry Cake. Both the Ponyo Drink and the cake were good. And I plan to go back there soon.

Cake Galerie is located along 1st Avenue (corner Tulip Drive) in Juna Subdivision. It is beside Weatherbee.

Looking for Tiles

Then, we accomplished our main task of the day. We visited two hardware stores to canvass for tiles. These were for Limaria which were still under construction at that time. Some of the establishments there are now open. Don’t ask about the hardware stores we went to. It was a blur for me and I do not remember which ones we actually went to.

Sari sari Ph

After an exhausting time at the hardware shops, we headed to Obrero. We were planning to dine at Koop Cafe. But first, we went upstairs to check out Sari Sari Ph, a concept store. What I like about Sari Sari Ph is how they highlight merch and works of local artists. Glad that this is just in my neighborhood.

Koop Cafe

Then, we went down to eat at Koop Cafe. I ordered their savory crepe, Garlic Chicken Crepe. Which was ok but I wish they had more Savory Crepe options. We also had their Blueberry and Cream Cheese Crepe. And I tried their Spanish Oat Latte. I recommend both of these. We have since gone back to Koop Cafe and again, I am glad this is just in my neighborhood. I will go back again soon. Who wants to come with?

Sari Sari Ph and Koop Cafe are located along Loyola Street in Obrero.

Frogurt

We were full from Koop so we skipped dinner and went straight to desserts at Frogurt. We love frozen yoghurt and Frogurt is one of our current favorites. I love their self-service yoghurt bar and the various choices of toppings, sauces, and more.

For this first visit, I went with my usual combination of fruits + nuts. This time, I chose fresh strawberries and walnuts. I was going to top it with caramel sauce but I was intrigued by their Italian Tiramisu Shell. The combination was good. Will go back for more.

Frogurt is located along McArthur Highway in Matina.

The trip to the hardware stores to look for tiles really got me sweaty and tired. LOL! But I was the only one complaining. I liked all the food spots we visited: Cake Galerie, Koop Cafe, and Frogurt. Will definitely go back.

Do you have suggestions or recommendations for us? We would love to try new things, discover underrated food spots. And taste unique dishes.
