Just came from watching Julie & Julia, based on the book with the same title by Julie Powell. Needless to say, I love it.
It’s not about cooking and baking. But love and passion. I can so totally relate to the movie… with cooking, baking, and blogging all in one movie. But I’m sure a lot of people will also love it and can relate to it.
Both Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and Julie Powell (Amy Adams) both dedicated themselves to cooking not for the sake of cooking, but because of love. They were both passionate about different things. While focused on different things, their passions brought them to food and cooking.
I share their passion. Passion to cook and bake, to serve the best there is to the people who matter to me. I’ve been told (more than once, sad to say) that I am addicted to baking and cooking. And I am. I am addicted to making the delicious pastries and meals. And I am passionate about writing and blogging, as well. And I was able to relate to Julie saying that she might have ADD. Coz I feel like I am like that sometimes. Interested and wanting to do so many things.
While I’d like to say I’m a Julia Child, I’m actually more like Julie. Ill-tempered. A bitch. But I do not have their determination and commitment. Prolly something I have to work on.
The movie has a great story. It makes you laugh and cry. There were moments I felt a tear wanting to fall down but I suppressed it. Would have been embarrassing to cry with my aunts and cousins around. But the movie was truly heart-touching without being to sappy.
The love stories between Paul and Julia, and Eric and Julie are just heart-tugging. The dedication and love to each other is something every person wants. And the support the husbands give their wives just makes you want to grab them and give them a big hug.
The movie is not inspirational, but aspirational. It makes you want to do something and commit to it.
And the acting? SUPERB! Two thumbs up to Amy Adams and Meryl Streep who just might grab yet another Academy Award nomination.
It’s not just for foodies or chefs or bloggers, it’s a movie that everybody who is passionate and loves sincerely can relate to.
“You are the bread to my butter, the breath to my life…”
-Paul Child to Julia Child <3
PS Because of the movie, I will try to make the best Beouf Bourguignon I can muster. And prolly try to find a copy of Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”

Wow sabi nila great daw ung movie. Kasi Meryl Streep at Amy Adams e. Di ko lang napanood kasi wala akong time at higit sa lahat wala akong copy. hehe.
I saw this movie last week. I totally agree with this blog post 100%; nakakaganang mag-blog tuloy, in the hopes na may gagawa na movie out of my life! 😀
Out of curiosity, I searched for Ms. Child’s cookbook sa torrent, there are several PDFs of the book out there. Just saying!
Very inspiring. You’re lucky to be able to do what you really love to do. Hope I can watch this film. Makes me not give up on cooking, because I love eating too. 🙂
