Goya Dark Mint Chocolates and More Goya!

Everybody first heard about Goya Dark Mint when AJ twitted about it a few weeks ago and also blogged about. Thus, began the bloggers' search for the mysterious Goya Dark Mint. Goya Dark Mint intrigued a lot of us since Goya is a local brand of chocolates and local dark chocolates with mint are unheard of. The Philippines isn't exactly known for high end chocolates. What were used to are local chocolates with a distinct flavor and texture that tastes better when not refrigerated. Goya is a brand I grew up with. I have recently seen and tasted the latest reformulated and repackaged good old Goya Milk Chocolate... ...and it didn't disappoint. Compared to the old Goya, it had a smoother texture. I can't exactly recall how the old Goya tastes, but this one is gave me a good chocolate fix for only PhP 14.75! Then, I saw they had a new variant... Dark Chocolate! As a dark chocolate lover... I just had to try it out. It's not as bitter or intoxicating as other dark chocolates I've tasted, but it's good enough. It packs in enough punch to give me a sugar rush. And it's only PhP 16.75! Goya…

How to Make Italian Cream Puffs

Here's a short how-to video for making Italian Cream Puffs. It is called Italian, because the filling is made of sweet cheese rather than Bavarian or Cream. Puff Pastry Ingredients 1/2 cup Butter (preferably salted) 1 cup Water 1 cup pre-sifted Flour 1/4 teaspoon Salt 4 Eggs This is a standard puff pastry recipe. Filling Ingredients 1/2 cup Cream Cheese* 1/4 cup Ricotta Cheese* 1/4 cup Sugar *1 cup Mascarpone Cheese (instead of Cream Cheese and Ricotta) can be used if available. Chocolate Sauce Ingredients 1 cup Bittersweet Chocolate Chips 1 tablespoon Butter We used half this recipe only. The video features me - Ria Jose, my cousin Gwing Cabreira, and my aunts Ivi Cabreira and Baby dela Serna.

Papa

I was reading Ate Aileen's entry about her dad's birthday today and started crying. It's May 19, 2008, my dad's 21st death anniversary. I do not know a lot about my dad except for these... His name was Joel Cecilio Ozaraga Jose. He was born on June 3. I don't even know what year. His parents are Perfecto Sr. and Lourdes Jose. He was the youngest among 5 siblings. He has three sisters, Gloria, Milagros, and Teresita, and one brother, Perfecto Jr. He studied at the Ateneo de Davao High School and was in section A. He then studied at the University of the Philippines - Diliman where he took up AB Political Science. He then became affiliated with the League of Filipino Students (LFS) and stopped attending college when he became involved in the First Quarter Storm during the early Martial Law years. He met my mother, and they married eloped on December 20, 1976 (I am not sure about the year). They then went on to become members of the CPP-NPA. From what I know, they were both logistics officers. In 1979, they had a daughter, Cecilia, and another daughter in 1982, Maria. Both daughters were left in…

The Misadventures of the Allebas at Camp Sabros

My cousins Kuya Andrew, Gwing, Kuya Jofer, Marc, and I just came from Camp Sabros. To start of our misadventure, we missed this very important sign... So we passed through Digos City (where Camp Sabros is) then panicked upon seeing the "Thank You! Come Again to Digos" signage. :( Not such a great way to start a fun summer outing. It was a sign of things to come... dun dun duuuun! We had to turn back, tried to find the correct way, and realized we wasted a lot of time by getting lost. When we saw a McDonald's we immediately went down to buy lunch, but wasn't able to because it was only 10 am and they would only start serving non-breakfast food at 10:30 am. SAAAD! Then we began the long trip to Camp Sabros. It was loooong and bumpeh! Then we tried to trek from the parking area to the actual site. Gwing, Marc, and I failed at being trekkers so we rode motorcycles. It was my first time to ride a motorcycle. Nothing exciting. Then, we arrived at Camp Sabros, when it was almost our turn, the people manning the zipline had to eat lunch. :( So…
