Veronica Mars + Logan Echolls = EPIC!

One of my favorite TV moments... From episode 20 of the second season of Veronica Mars: Logan: I thought our story was epic, you know? You and me. Veronica: Epic how? Logan: Spanning years and continents. Lives ruined, bloodshed, epic. Veronica: ...You really think a relationship should be that hard? Logan: No one writes songs about the ones that come easy.

An Educational City Council Session – August 4, 2007

To say that today's Davao City Council Session is interesting would be and understatement. Where else would you learn about the rise of gangsterism, cybertrafficking, the bunchy-top and sigatoka viruses, ten indigenous vegetables, corn farming, and hito raising??? Councilor Danny Dayanghirang representing the Committee Peace and Public Safety gave a powerpoint presentation on the committee's hearing on and review of RA 9344 known as the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006. The law, according to Dayanghirang, has empowered some youth offenders to commit crimes repeatedly without fear of being convicted. Councilor Rachel Zozobrado filed a resolution to request the Philippine Congress, through Davao City 3rd District Representative Isidro Ungab, to enact a law extensively defining and penalizing cybertrafficking. According to Zozobrado, there is a need to expand RA 9208 (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003). Councilor Conde Baluran filed a resolution called all concerned offices to act in order to stop the spread of the bunchy-top virus afflicting banana plants. Councilor April Dayap inquired why the resolution only addressed the bunchy-top virus and why not also other banana diseases such as the Sigatoka Disease. Councilor Baluran also filed a resolution commending the Bureau of Plant Industry for promoting ten…

A Night Out

Last Saturday, the BoyzTrek (BT) boys and Mayang (their official muse) invited me to join their inuman session. The invitation actually came days before. And eventhough my SJL Boys were asking me to go out with them that same night, I went out with the BT Boys instead. As I was too drunk to remember everything that happened that night... here are just bits and pieces of what I remember... 1) Me: Burnz, I'll skip this round. Burnz: Ok. Rioren upon receiving his shot: Ria, salo mo ako. ANUH? Tama daw na guy magpapasalo ng shot sa girl. 2) Somebody gave away his number to a gay guy who was obviously flirting with him. 3) I saw my cousin Brian's friends. They invited me to join them. They said Brian just left to go do something (ANO KAYA YUN?) and that his younger sister, Mae was in the area. 4) Coincidentally, my SJL Boys: Shad, Aiwem, Royce (with gf Em), and Brylle were also there. 5) And the Sequel Sta Ana (SSA) boys Talong (yup, that's his nickname), and BJ were also there. According to them, SSA has two teams ready to join the tournament circuit once again. 6) Me…

Bloggers and the Principalia

Recent events in the Pinoy Blogosphere has led Alex Maximo to explore the similarities of the so-called "blogging elite" in the Pinoy blogosphere and the principalia of the Philippines during the Spanish colonization. Juned, however, begged to differ. Juned notes that the perceived similarities between the principali and the "blogging elite" does not exist merely between the "elite" and the principalia but throughout the blogging community in general and the principalia. I think Alex presents a valid observation, one that Juned has promptly and adequately debunked.

Coming Soon: Blogging Workshops With Ria

When people ask me why I'm always online and hang out in local cafes, I always answer them: "I'm working." And this conversation usual follows... Random Person (RP): What work? Ria Jose (RJ): Researching, blogging, reading... RP: Blogging? RJ: Yup, I'm a professional blogger. RP: What's that? RJ: I earn money from blogging. RP: How? RJ: I write then advertisers advertise on my blog. RP: How? RJ: {explains how but in simple non-cyber terms.} RP: How much do you earn? RJ: Ah... eh... ummm... Anyway, you get the idea. This conversation happens in face-to-face conversations, through YM, and through SMS. A lot of people are interested in blogging but don't really know what it is about, or how to go about it. Most of them simply want to earn money. Others are simply curious. In light of this, and Alleba Advertising and Events' goal to increase awareness about blogging and problogging in Davao City, I will be conducting some workshops for small groups of people. I do not claim to be the best blogger in town. Nor do I think I am a very credible resource speaker in terms of the technical aspects of blogging. But I think I know…
