Baking is NOT an Easy Job

Kuya Andrew and I took a baking class at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies here in Davao City. Our instructor was Chef Jun-jun de Guzman, and there were 7 of us in the class. I was tasked to bake Focaccia Bread and French Rolls. Kuya also baked French Rolls and Ciabatta. It was a very educational but also very tiring experience. The kneading was the worst part. ARGH! Luckily, my Foccacia and French Rolls came out great. But the best bread were the Dinner Rolls. Chef Jun-jun also concocted a dip which he only thought of right that moment. It was yummmmmy! We have another class tomorrow. We will be baking whole wheat bread, blueberry bread, walnut loaf, cuban loaf, and potato bread among others. I'm already excited, but scared at the same time. I hope those breads require less kneading. HAHA!

Today is National "Thank You" Day

I first read it on Noemi Dado's blog. Today, Toblerone is spearheading today's Thank You Day here in the Philippines. I joined Noemi's Thank You Day contest, and I received an email yesterday from the organizers telling me I won two tickets to the concert tonight. Unfortunately, I can't go because I'm based here in Davao City. Anyway, I would still like to thank Toblerone for the tickets and this wonderful concept of having a National Thank You Day! From the bottom of my heart, DAGHANG SALAMAT!!! to all the people around me, even those who I wish to kill!

Print Screen Meme

My desktop iz cute, splattered with many, many icons of the software I use most often, the files I open all the time, and some notes on some things I'm working on. The Meme Rules: (Batang Makulit Yagit tagged me for this one.) My Desktop Free View Instruction: A. Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun. You can do a screen capture by: Going to your desktop and pressing the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key). Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and do a Paste (CTRL + V). If you wish, you can “edit” the image, before saving it. B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you preferred such look or why is it full of Icons, things like that. C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Free View of their desktop as well.…

Gonna Learn How to Bake

Kuya Andrew has been managing their family's bakery business, Mam Bebs for quite some time now. And I have been assisting him with it. Last Saturday, my aunt (the Mam Bebs) told us that we have to learn how to bake. A couple of summers ago, another aunt taught me how to bake some pastries. And I enjoyed it. I enjoyed measuring, mixing, following the recipes step-by-step. It might sound geeky, but it kinda reminded me of my days in the laboratory as a science student. Next week, Kuya and I are going to attend the Basic Bread Making Workshop of the Center for Asian Culinary Studies here in Davao City. The course details are as follows: BASIC BREAD MAKING WORKSHOP Always wanted to make you own bread at home? Conversations that Made Me Think

Well, these are not really conversations but exchanges made through the magical powers of technology. Last week, I was chatting via YM with a DotA player that I was interviewing for my DotA Blog. Let's call him "B." We were talking about the game, players, tournaments, my work, and such things. Here's a truncated version of what happened: B: Hey! Can I ask you something? RJ (me): Sure. B: Do you have a lot of guy friends? RJ: Yes. I don't have a lot of female friends. B: That makes sense. RJ: Why? B: You talk like a boy. You're different from most girls I know. Ohhhkay.... Fast forward to this afternoon... My ex-suitor na itatago natin sa pangalang (whom we shall call) "H" sent me an SMS asking about the exhibition games between Malaysia's Cybertime, and local Teams Ch¡LL and CORPOration. I replied. He didn't reply for quite a while. Then... (the English geist of our conversation) H: Ria... RJ: Yes? H: You were beautiful yesterday (referring to last Saturday when we saw each other during a tournament). RJ: Are you drunk again? I'm always beautiful. Your fault... you're slow. (I was joking.) H: If you weren't such a…
